Job Description:
The Certified Medication Aide or CMA provides direct resident
care and safely administering medication under the supervision of
licensed nursing staff. This role requires attention to detail,
excellent communication, and a heart for working with the elderly
population. Physical Requirements: This job requires excellent
physical and mental health. The CMA must be able to be on their
feet continuously during work hours. Must be able to lift and/or
carry 50 - 75lbs. Qualifications: This job requires a current CMA
certification with the State of Oklahoma. Must carry a valid CNA
(Certified Nursing Assistant) License with the State of Oklahoma.
Must be trained and certified in CPR and First Aide. Must be able
to accurately obtain and record all vital signs. Often requires
experience in senior living with residents with dementia or
Alzheimer's. Familiarity with basic computer skills for
documentation may be needed. Key Responsibilities: · Administer
medications and treatments as directed by a licensed nurse, in
accordance with state regulations and facility policy. · Document
medication administration accurately and promptly in resident
records. · Observe residents for side effects or adverse reactions
and promptly report concerns to nursing staff. · Monitor and report
changes in residents’ physical or emotional condition. ·
Communicate respectfully and effectively with residents, families,
and coworkers. · Maintain a clean, safe, and supportive environment
for all residents. · Support team efforts and assist with other
tasks as needed in the facility. · Stores medications in a safe and
accurate manner in accordance with established policies and
procedures and applicable state and federal regulations. · Monitors
medications to ensure adequate accountability measures are taken
with when medications are ordered, received into the facility,
administered and a change of shift as required by policies and
procedures and along with applicable state and federal regulations.
· Routinely inspects, cleans, and monitors equipment and supplies
to ensure resident safety. Reports any equipment or supply issues
to the Director of Nursing or Executive Director for corrective
action. · Obtains, records, and reports vital signs as indicated
during the time of administration of medication, or any time when
requested by the director of nursing. · May be asked to assist the
Director of Nursing in supervising other nursing staff in their
absence. · Demonstrates proper infection control practice by
Universal Precautions and following policies and procedures
including OSHA’s blood-borne pathogen standards and exposure
control plan. · Uses facility and/or resident equipment and
supplies in an appropriate manner. Reports concerns or requests
assistance as indicated. · Communicates suggestions or concerns
from residents, other staff, visitors or others to the Director of
Nursing or the Executive Director in a timely and factual manner. ·
Practices good body mechanics during lifting and other physical
exertions to prevent injuries to self or others. · Observes all
safety precautions as required in the policy and procedures. ·
Assists residents to social functions or to meals in a timely
manner as assigned or identified in the plan of care. · Participate
in the orientation of new or temporary staff to the unit to ensure
continuity in the delivery of resident care. · Seeks assistance
from the Director of Nursing when confronted with a problem that
requires special attention. · Provides restorative care to
residents as assigned by the Director of Nursing or as indicated in
the plan of care to include but not limited to, range of motion,
ambulation, positioning, toileting, etc. · Promotes and encourages
social interactions from residents during meals, during direct care
and at other times as appropriate. · Supports, maintains, and
assists with projects related to the activity programs for the
facility. · Understands and agrees with the philosophy and goal to
maintain, improve, and/or enhance each resident’s quality of care
and quality of life. · Provides, completes, and documents if
applicable, resident care as assigned in a timely and accurate
manner. · Change bedding, mattresses, and/or moving furniture in
resident rooms; lifting rotating assisting residents who are
partially or totally incapacitated; provides personal care and
assistance in Activities of Daily Living. Operating equipment such
as wheelchairs, lifting devices, mechanized beds, and other related
medical devices. Performing other duties assigned in the resident’s
overall plan of care. · Assists housekeeping and residents in
maintaining proper living conditions including emptying the trash
daily, returning dishes to the kitchen, picking up items from the
floor, or any other tasks to provide safe and clean-living
conditions. · Identifies safety hazards and emergency situations
and initiates corrective action immediately as identified in the
policies and procedures, current standards of care. · Attends and
participates in facility in-service training programs. · Responds
to requests from residents for assistance in a respectful and
timely fashion. Answers call lights promptly. Observes and
