Pharmacy LicenseGeneral Summary:The Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC)
shall provide leadership functions as they relate to the safe and
effective drug acquisition, storage, preparation, compounding,
repackaging, labeling, dispensing, and delivery of medication to
customers.The PIC shall ensure the pharmacy is operated in
conformance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations
pertinent to the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of
drugs.The PIC shall ensure there are adequate policies and
procedures implemented and followed for the safe and efficient
provision of pharmacy practice consistent with standards of
practice and regulatory requirements.Essential
Responsibilities:Staff Management:Ensure appropriate hiring and
onboarding of new staffEnsure staff is appropriately licensed,
registered and/or certifiedEnsure staff perform functions permitted
by regulatory scope of practiceEnsure staff are trained, including
participating in, or providing coaching and trainingEnsure
compliance training is completed as scheduled for new hires (upon
start) and existing staff annuallyEnsure annual reviews are
completed per scheduleEnsure accurate management and documentation
of PTO/Attendance records and requestsIdentify and communicate with
HR business partner any staff performance/behavior concerns and
development opportunitiesProvide secondary review of performance
and annual reviews for staff reporting to supervisors in assigned
departments.Ensure leads and supervisors are appropriately trained,
engaged and meeting expectationsEnsure coaching, counseling and
discipline are appropriate and consistent with company standards
and expectations including appropriate documentationManage staff
performance including coaching/counseling, new hire feedback and
reviews, disciplinary actions, and annual staff performance
reviewsEnsure all staffing and scheduling is appropriate for
workloads and meets any regulatory requirementsRegulatory
ComplianceEnsure compliance with ALL applicable Regulatory Agency
rules and regulations including but not limited to:DEABoard of
Pharmacy (including relevant PDMP processes/reporting)Department of
HealthDepartment of AgingFDACMSEnsure notification to regulatory
agencies (i.e.. Board of Pharmacy, DEA, Department of Health, etc.)
of certain information as required by regulation is completed
timely and accuratelyEnsure compliance with Practice Standards
including, but not limited to:USP 797USP 795USP 800Ensure
compliance with Company Policies and ProceduresEnsure every task
performed at the site is done within the appropriate scope of
practice of the staff member and in compliance with any applicable
regulationsProductivity ManagementEnsure staff meet or exceed
established standards for performance including productivity,
accuracy and qualityEnsure all cutoff times and completion
schedules and release times are metIdentify opportunities to
improve operations including, but not limited to, staff training,
cost reduction, productivity improvement, increased capacity,
improved quality, enhanced service, and best practices workflows
and receive any necessary approval before implementationEnsure
consistent, accurate and timely onboarding of new customersQuality
ImprovementEnsure Quality concerns are appropriately documented and
reviewedEnsure Quality concerns, when warranted, are
escalatedDepartmental Responsibilities including, but not limited
to:DISPENSINGResponsible for the understanding and working
knowledge of the applicable pharmacy computer systems, including,
but not limited to Framework, ECM, DocuTrack, and CIM as it
pertains to order entry, dispensing, Pharmacist Verification
(PV1/PV2) functions, problem solving, quality and clinical review
to ensure accurate, timely prescription/order processing and
dispensingWhen needed, assist with pharmacist
responsibilitiesEnsure all staff involved in pharmacy activities
are properly trained and follow established policies and procedures
and standards of practiceSTERILE AND NON-STERILE COMPOUNDING
PROCESSES (if performed onsite and have appropriate
licensing)Ensure sterile and non-sterile compounding processes are
conducted in compliance with all applicable rules, regulations and
standards, including USP 797, USP 795 and USP 800Ensure sterile and
non-sterile compounding processes are conducted in compliance with
Company Policies and ProceduresMaintain all required certifications
and provide oversight of cleaning/environmental managementEnsure
only technicians and pharmacists with appropriate certifications
participate in compounding activitiesINVENTORYEnsure appropriate
acquisition and storage of medicationsEnsure appropriate packaging,
labeling and transport of medicationsEnsure proper management and
documentation of drug acquisition and disposition including drug
recalls and management of outdated/unusable medicationsEnsure
compliance with pedigree documentation requirementsEnsure proper
execution of NDC flipsTECHNICIAN OVERSIGHT/SUPERVISIONEnsure
technician activities are appropriately supervised in accordance
with State requirements and scope of practiceEnsure technicians
follow established Company Policies and ProceduresWhere permitted
by Board of Pharmacy regulations, ensure technician trainee
programs comply with all applicable requirements and ensure
appropriate documentation is maintainedCONTROLLED DANGEROUS
SUBSTANCE (CDS) PROCESSESEnsure all required CDS documentation is
maintainedEnsure appropriate security with limited access to
controlled substances is maintainedEscalate any CDS fraudulent
prescription, inventory discrepancy or potential theft or loss of
CDSCUSTOMER SERVICE/QUALITY (INTERNAL & EXTERNAL CUSTOMERS)Ensure
complete, timely and accurate information is provided to advise
physicians, nurses, caregivers, residents, etc. regarding all
aspects of pharmacy services including, but not limited to: drug
therapies, Insurance/Third Party payable alternatives, alternative
options during drug shortages, assist with medication
administration guidance (i.e.. resident with PEG tube, resident
with swallowing difficulty)Problem solve and resolve client issues
or refer to other departments as appropriateProvide assistance in
the development, deployment and management of department and
customer supported initiativesAssist Billing, Central Rejects and
Clinical Service Center with questions when appropriateAssist with
Third Party AuditsON-SITE STORES (OSS) (if applicable)Ensure OSS
process is managed appropriately, including, but not limited to,
appropriateness of medications and quantities included in OSS,
management of outdates, security of OSS in facility and during
transport, performance of timely audits and maintenance of
appropriate documentation and compliance with CDS OSS discrepancy
processPACKING/PRE-PACKAGINGEnsure all packaging/pre-packaging is
done consistent with applicable rules, regulations and standards of
practiceEnsure appropriate and accurate labeling of
packaged/prepackaged medications including NDC, manufacturer
identification, lot numbers and expiration dates (BUDs)Ensure
accurate documentation is maintainedRETURNS PROCESSINGEnsure
returns (refused or recalled medications) are processed in
compliance with all applicable regulatory rules and consistent with
Company Policies & ProceduresEnsure records clearly and accurately
indicate product dispositionEnsure all required documentation is
maintainedRECORD REQUESTSEnsure all records requests are reviewed
